This book I love. I'm a bit sad that I never heard about Mrs. Gaskell until now, but then it's wonderful to be able to discover someone so wonderful. She's like Jane Austen in this book. It's a bit like Pride and Prejudice. Except set during the Industrial Revolution, in England. But while the love story is thrilling, the reader doesn't lose sight of the social class issues that the author addresses. The themes of this book are, I think, still relevant.
But oh my goodness. The film. I can't tell you how it ends, but I don't think you will be disappointed.
